In our policy right now, we have stated that "volunteering for YuKonstruct can include any activity that contributes to the overall betterment of the space and its membership. Volunteer hours should be logged in the Volunteer Hours Book on the reception desk. A member who contributes to YuKonstruct by either: volunteering 10 hours, or teaching a workshop (in lieu of payment) is eligible for a one-month $5 membership.
They access this discount by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org after they have paid the regular membership for the month. The email should detail the number of hours that they volunteered and a general description of their activity. YuKonstruct then reimburses the volunteer."
I'd like to propose that we add a bit more detail to this policy:
Volunteers can bank their hours over several months to receive the $5 membership perk (ex. 5 hours for 2 months, then the 3rd month membership is $5)
Volunteers are not able to "rollover" their hours into the next month (ex. working 40 hours in one month does not give you a $5 membership for 4 months).
I'd like to add policy regarding age: can someone who knows more about legalities please field this one? Should we have an age minimum to volunteer?
Lastly, if a volunteer is not a member, what tools/equipment/jobs are they able to work on without being a member yet?
